In Shake, we use badges (red dots) to notify you of new activities, such as unread tickets, comments, or alerts. In this article, we explain how badges work, how to set them up, and what they mean when you see them, as well as how to manage your notifications.
1. What Are Badges?
Badges are red dots that indicate new activity within the apps you use. They work similarly to other tools like Slack.
If YOU ARE NOT in the User Feedback module: You will see a badge with a little white dot in the left sidebar. This dot indicates unread notifications, but the number will not be shown.
If YOU ARE in the User Feedback module: Badges will no longer be visible in the sidebar. Instead, the number of unread items will be displayed above the section where you switch between apps with a clear distinction between the apps.
2. Managing Notifications
With notification settings, you can control when and how badges will appear:
If you turn off notifications for an app or some of the options (e.g., turn off the "New note or comment" option), the badge will not display any unread items for that app or option.
If you turn notifications back on, the badge will show the total number of unread items, including those accumulated while notifications were off.
3. How Unread Items Work
Unread items are constantly tracked and remain until read:
For example, if you have some unread tickets and later turn off notifications for a specific app, you will no longer see a badge for those tickets.
Later, if you turn notifications back on for that app, the badge will show the total number of unread items, including new tickets and those accumulated while notifications were off.
Example:
Let’s say you have 2 unread tickets. You go to My Account and turn off notifications for that app. Later, you receive 30 more unread tickets. When you go back to My Account and turn notifications back on, the badge for that app will display the number 32.
